Fascinating Research published on New Population of Pink-footed Goose

2 March 2023

Fascinating new research paper documenting formation of a new migration route and a disjunct breeding population of Pink-footed Goose has been published in Current Biology. The new population which has grown up to 3.000-4.000 birds has been breeding on Novaya Zemlya, Russia, almost 1.000 km away from the original breeding grounds in Svalbard, Norway. The group of scientists lead by Head of EGMP Data Centre Prof.Dr. Madsen has been witnessing population of Arctic geese in the making in real time. One of the key drivers for this natural phenomenon are warming climate conditions.

A press-release on the paper was published in EurekAlert!: https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/980735

The paper is available in the latest edition of Current Biology: https://www.cell.com/current-biology/fulltext/S0960-9822(23)00134-3?_returnURL=https%3A%2F%2Flinkinghub.elsevier.com%2Fretrieve%2Fpii%2FS0960982223001343%3Fshowall%3Dtrue
